Confused about the value or relevance of online media?
This handy guide is designed to help you navigate your way through the fast changing, jargon filled (and to some confusing) world of blogs, social media/networking sites and online news and information services.
For those new to online media, there are seven things we think you should know...
1. There are (in our view) six categories or channels:
- Editorial news sites
- Blogs
- Selective news sites
- Non-selective news sites
- Social media tools/platforms
- Aggregators and search engines
2. It's global, linkable, shareable and durable
3. Language matters
4. The choice is vast...
5. Getting published is both simple and complex
6. Presenting your story in the right form is vital
7. Monitoring coverage and assessing influence is challenging
And finally... the power to persuade
Please remember the online media is growing in power and influence. It's rare today for decisions to be reached without reference to the Internet. We are constantly forming opinions based on the information that we find. Thoughtfully used, it is a powerful tool with an incredible ability to persuade.
